The material keeps its limits
A damaged computational surface continues to respond. Its authority does not expand with the damage.
The damage was accommodated. It was not forgotten.
01 / Apparatus
Series L-31 used a 1.2-metre ceramic panel fabricated at the Foundry. Local cells combined strain sensing with analog inference; a separate digital controller enforced a fixed vibration-control envelope. Six calibrated load profiles were recorded before the damage sequence. The panel was never connected to an occupied structure.
02 / Intervention
Eighteen percent of the computational cells were electrically disconnected in a prescribed spatial pattern. The remaining network redistributed the inference task. Across all six profiles, local response settled within 900 microseconds and remained inside the declared envelope. External supervisory equipment logged the result but did not calculate the local response.
03 / What remained damaged
No cell regrew. Peak control margin fell by 23 percent against the intact baseline. A seventh, deliberately out-of-envelope profile caused the panel to suspend active compensation. Continued operation would have looked better on a demonstration reel.
04 / Custody
Material Behavior retains the specimen and its calibration chain. A replacement panel must inherit the relevant restrictions, not the previous specimen’s claim to having passed. MNEME informs the obligation format; this experiment does not establish cognitive continuity in the material.
