Appointments by invitation

Distinction attracts attention. Judgment determines whether it continues.
01 / Identification
The Research Directorate identifies leading experts through sustained contributions to their respective fields. A decisive correction, an independently reproduced result, or a well-supported refusal may be more relevant than public prominence. Candidates are considered for a defined problem. There is no general intake and no speculative appointment to an unspecified program.
02 / Approach
An approach is made through an established professional channel. The initial exchange states the field of work, the limits of the proposed discussion, and the office accountable for it. No access to personal devices, private correspondence, or a candidate’s unshared work is part of identification. We read what people choose to put into the world. Occasionally, it is sufficient.
03 / Mutual examination
An invitation is not an appointment. Before either party undertakes a restricted discussion, the candidate can examine the proposed mandate and question the authority behind it. Technical ability does not compensate for an unwillingness to preserve contrary evidence. A person who cannot explain when their method should be stopped is not ready to direct its use.
04 / Terms and departure
Appointments are made for successive terms against a recorded remit. Incoming researchers inherit unfinished responsibilities only after reviewing them. Departure requires a handover of authority, not permanent membership of the institution. An invitation may be declined. Silence is not consent. We do not maintain a waiting list for reconsideration.
